Las Vegas Visitors Guide to Hoover Dam

Located just thirty miles southeast of Las Vegas the Hoover Dam is one of the most massive man made structures, not in only in the United States, but in the world. Hoover Dam delivers over 4 billion kilowatt hours of electricity a year, if you're not sure how much that is; it's equal to the yearly amount consumed by Nevada, Arizona and Southern California combined.

There are many things to do and see while at the Hoover Dam, so regardless of your mobility you will be able to enjoy and learn the history of the Hoover Dam. There are murals, photos, maps and other display items depicting the Hoover Dam, past, present and future. In theatre one you can learn what role the Bureau of Reclamation had and continues to play in helping grow the food that feeds most of the nation as well other vital roles to our future. For those more interested in seeing the technical side of the Hoover Dam you can take an elevator ride 500 feet down and walk through a 250 foot tunnel to see he 650' Nevada wing of the plant and the eight generators inside it.

There are many other exhibits and guided tours available.

When planning your visit to the Hoover Dam you might want to keep in mind that the busiest time is from Memorial Day until Labor Day and again during Spring Break. Tours given between 9-10:30am and 3-4:45pm tend to be less crowded.
